Sacramento, September 20 - The Cook Foundation, a stalwart champion of community development, has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering a brighter future for the local community by presenting the Tradestrong Foundation with a generous donation of $100,000.
This significant contribution, which will have a lasting impact on the region, was made possible through the success of the inaugural Cook Foundation Golf and Cornhole Tournament held on July 17, 2023. The event not only showcased the foundation’s commitment to community involvement but also celebrated the spirit of collaboration and generosity.
“The Cook Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors and donors who rallied behind this cause,” commented foundation President Shellie Cook. “Their unwavering support and partnership have made this donation possible.”
These funds will be channeled directly to empower the next generation of tradespeople within our community. The donation will take the form of scholarships, educational initiatives, and efforts aimed at elevating the image of the construction trades. Through these investments, the Cook Foundation aims to pave the way for promising careers, support educational opportunities, and enhance the overall perception of these vital trades.
The Cook Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to promote community growth, strengthen partnerships, and create a brighter future for all.
“This contribution to the Tradestrong Foundation is a testament to the Cook Foundation’s ongoing commitment to making a positive and lasting impact on the local community. It will go a long way toward helping us fulfill our mission of providing scholarships and education to students in our area who are considering careers in the trades,” explained Tradestrong Co-founder Brent Collins.
The Cook Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to fostering community growth and development. Through partnerships, donations, and initiatives, the Foundation aims to create opportunities, support education, and strengthen the community’s well-being.
We wanted to help partner with Tradestrong on this year's focus to help support the trades and their educational programs. With your support, together we can work to rebrand, reinforce and elevate the trades.
skilled trades jobs are estimated to remain open by 2028.

of the 12 million tradespeople are over 45 and half of those are over 55, while less than 9% are between 19-24
Careers in the trades span a variety of industries and offer exciting and fulfilling career paths. However, we must change the many misconceptions that young people and their parents hold about these rewarding careers.
Trade jobs aren't what they used to be. They involve extensive knowledge of technology, machinery, computer software, mathematics. Not to mention the brain power involved with critical thinking, creativity, problem solving, and communication.Trade jobs aren't what they used to be. This is just not true. Many entry-level positions pay upwards of $20 per hour and wages go up from there. The average salary for many trades is around $50,000. For those who open their own businesses, earning six figures is not uncommon. What's more, the average trade school education costs $33,000, and many trade jobs will train you and pay you for that training.
Just like any other career, tradespeople usually start in entry-level positions or as apprentices and then work their way up.
This is an outdated stereotype. There is no better time for women to enter the trades. There are even organizations dedicated to advocating for the success of women in the trades.
